The Right-of-Way (RoW) Task Force, under GRIDCo’s Land Management Department, has taken its sensitisation campaign to the Ashanti Region, following several weeks of engagements across the Greater Accra Region.
The campaign forms part of GRIDCo’s wider efforts to address encroachment on its
transmission corridors and help communities understand the risks associated with activities within these protected areas. Working with the Information Services Department (ISD), the Task Force engaged residents, businesses and other users along the K5NB (Kumasi–New Obuasi) transmission line.
The engagement covered about five (5) kilometres, stretching from Nhyiaeso through the Ahodwo Roundabout, Adiebeba and Ahodwo to Sokoban. At each location, the team spoke with people living, trading and carrying out other activities along the transmission corridor, explaining why the Right-of-Way must remain clear, accessible
and safe.
An obstructed corridor can make this work more difficult and, in some situations, delay the response to problems on the network. The Task Force, therefore, urged anyone occupying GRIDCo’s RoW to take the necessary steps to vacate the area.
Key messages delivered to encroachers included, “Do not wait until you are forcefully removed.” “If you are occupying GRIDCo’s RoW, vacate the area now.” “Your safety comes first.”
The campaign will continue to engage communities and users of the transmission corridors, with the aim of building greater public understanding of the importance of keeping the RoW free from encroachment. The message remains clear; keeping transmission corridors clear, safe and accessible is a shared responsibility, and an important part of keeping the power flowing.
