GRIDCo’s Board Chair, Kuukua Maurice Ankrah, together with four (4) other Board members, His Majesty Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III; Mr. Muhammed Bashiru Nii Narh Alema; Nana Amoasi VII (Mr. Joshua Anaman Sackey); Mr. Daniel Atchulo have lauded the Chief Executive and the Team working on the Akosombo Restoration Phase II project for the immense progress on works at GRIDCo’s Akosombo Switchyard.
The Board delegation, led by the Chairlady, Kuukua Maurice Ankrah conducted a site visit on the Containerised Control Hub at the Akosombo Switchyard on Thursday 17th September, 2026 to the Akosombo Switchyard to apprise themselves of the progress of work on the remodelled GRIDCo Control Room among other works.
The Chief Executive, Ing. Frank Otchere and Director SND, Ing. Francis Arthur briefed the delegation of work done in view of end of September 2026 timeline. Ing. Francis Arthur, updated the Board saying, “We are meeting here on a good note. We are working hard to delivering on the timelines we committed to.”
Ing. Arthur mentioned provisions made for various equipment required to facilitate the Operation and Control of the Substation including, the Battery Banks, Auxiliary Supply, HMI Interface for Operators and Protection, Communication and SCADA equipment.
The Board Members toured the Containerised Control Hub, which will house all power evacuation systems until the commissioning of permanent systems in a new Control Building. The space hosts two Operators’ consoles, control room equipment and a yet-to-be installed system unit. The Board delegation was informed of the progress of re-modelling of containers, migration of protection, control, metering, communication, SCADA and auxiliary systems. The auxiliary systems also include equipment, which will enhance the security of electricity evacuation. The Board Members also observed ongoing works on fire detection and suppression systems and CCTV.
The Board Members took turns to commend the team for a job well done. Mr. Muhammed Bashiru Nii Narh Alema commented that, “The current structure is beautiful”. He urged that, it be managed well to serve its purpose. Mr. Daniel Atchulo, another Board Member, recognised the thought that had gone into the remodelling, particularly incorporating mechanisms to prevent the spread of fire. He also highlighted the role of fire-resistant materials to delay the impact of fire, noting that, “Everything done shows you are thinking about preventing a fire incident in the near future.” Meanwhile, His Majesty Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, Akwamuhene expressed his satisfaction saying, “Kudos! You have done well!” Nana Amoasi also commended the entire team with the words, “Impressive job!”
In her final comments the Board Chair, Kuukua Maurice Ankrah urged the team, “Let’s find a way to tell our story timeously. Let’s define ourselves, let us not be defined by other people’s opinion of us. I have no doubt in my mind that you are capable; even before this I had no doubt in my mind. Even the President was impressed with the work that had been done without any foreigners.” She lauded the various teams for all the work done, following the emergency restoration.
