Staff in the Telecommunications Section received training for the SCADACOM Project, focusing on the FOX615 as an MPLS-TP access and transport multiplexer. The goal is to prepare staff for the Telecommunications Upgrade, incorporating features, such as MPLS-TP and Cyber Security Monitoring into the corporate telecommunication network.

In his opening remarks at the start of the one-week training session, Ing. Hussaini Adams, acting for the Director, Southern Network Department noted that, “This is a steppingstone to mastering the technology, which is essential to helping you develop successfully to the advancement of your goal in GRIDCo so, please ask questions and participate fully.”

This component of the SCADACOM Upgrade will drive capacity from the current STM-4 (622Mbps) installed capacity to 10Gbps including, the extension of the 10Gbps network to the Backup Control Centre (BCC) to facilitate a redundant communication highway between SCC and BCC.

Addressing the trainees, Project Director for the SCADACOM Project, Ing. Frank Otchere, who is also the Director, System Operations expressed excitement at the training facilitated by Haridas Velloor, Engineering Manager at Hitachi, who engaged in a previous GRIDCo project. Ing. Otchere stated, “If we are in the telecom age, if GRIDCo will have a good team – the participants here are the ones responsible for making the system work. Let us therefore, resolve to make the system work so, it will stand the test of time.”

Participants were tasked to ensure they transfer the knowledge acquired over the period to others, so learning is executed into the future for the sustainability of GRIDCo.
