The Chief Executive of GRIDCo, Ing. Ebenezer Kofi Essienyi, has embarked on his annual welcome tour. His first week of the nationwide tours covered the Head Office, the Tema, Accra, and Akosombo Operational Areas, where he visited staff of various Departments to wish them “Afi ooo Afi”, “Ƒe yeye na wò”, and formally welcome them back to work from the Christmas break.
In his message, at both Head Office & Tema Area, the Chief Executive expressed gratitude for the dedication and hard work demonstrated by staff throughout the year. He was particularly grateful that staff of designated departments executed their mandate by going the extra mile to ensure uninterrupted power delivery during the recent festivities, particularly due to some concerns that came up just before the break. He expressed satisfaction that there was no mishap during the period, and urged all Staff to continue putting in their best efforts in 2024, expressing optimism that “Being a leap year, things would be much better for the Company.”
The tour to the Accra Area and Akosombo Operational Areas took a different approach as the Area Staff had numerous questions, which they put before the Chief Executive. Some staff in the Accra Operational Area raised the need for some technical requirements and tools to ensure safe and smooth operations; promotions; the need for acting allowances etc.; instances of overdue overtime payments; delayed payment of mature PF from the provider, among other things.
At the Akosombo Area, staff received answers to questions on the future of promotions, as GRIDCo HR is set to commence the implementation of the new Reward & Performance Management System; the urgent need for project vehicles, PPEs, including body harnesses etc.
CE and Management were alerted on technical and operational issues which require urgent action, including the need for a Transformer upgrade at Tafo and substation works at Akwatia. Also, up for discussion were concerns about allowances & PF payments.
Ing. Essienyi reassured staff that, together with the Management. Team staff’s concerns will be addressed as soon as possible.
In his overarching message, CE urged staff to appreciate where GRIDCo sits saying, “Our role in the energy value chain is so key that GRIDCo is the showstopper as the state monopoly. I want to succeed so, my successors can. So, let’s continue to work to let GRIDCo grow.”
Additionally, the Chief Executive advised staff to pay particular attention to their health, entreating them to undergo their annual medical examinations, as this would enable staff to identify any potential health challenges sooner than later.
Ing. Essienyi and the Management Team will continue the tours in the remaining Operational Areas in the subsequent weeks.
