One hundred and seventy-five (175) GRIDCo Staff have received awards of recognition for their Long Service to the Company. The elegant event held on Thursday, 5th December, 2024 honoured staff for their commitment and dedication to GRIDCo.
The event hosted by GRIDCo HR attracted not just the awardees, but their families, Board Members, Management and Staff and a former Advisor to the Chief Executive, who was the guest of honour.
The night honoured six (6) staff who have served for 3 decades (30 years) from their time with Volta River Authority (VRA) to GRIDCo. 36 staff were also honoured for serving for 25 years, 66 staff for 20 years, 27 staff for 15 years, and 40 staff members for 10 years of service.
The theme for this year ceremony, “Promoting a Positive Work Culture Through Effective Reward Management System; the Role of Stakeholders” was considered timely and apt because of GRIDCo’s implementation of a new reward policy, aimed at appreciating the work of employees whiles creating a supportive, inclusive, and productive work environment.
Welcoming guests to the event, Ms. Florence Agyei, Director of Human Resources expressed her appreciation to GRIDCo staff noting, the aim is not just to recognise staff but to ensure that GRIDCo’s retention strategy is working in order to have the best people in the Company.
Guest of Honour, Ing. Daniel Amartey, a former Advisor to the CE praised both internal and external stakeholders for their collaborative efforts to implement and strengthen the reward management system. He stated that, “knowing the commitment of the stakeholders, I am optimistic the revisions will serve as a catalyst to keep GRIDCo’s brightest and best, while projecting GRIDCo as an attractive place not just to work, but to build a career in the long term”.
On the importance of the reward management system, CE, Ing. Ebenezer Kofi Essienyi emphasised that the best motivation for staff is a sustainable reward management system which drives efficiency and productivity. He said, “It is proper that staff are adequately and fairly rewarded for their contribution, hard work and innovative ideas which drive our operations and business strategy forward”.
In an emotional moment, the Board Chair, Amb. Kabral Blay-Amihere, focused his remarks on ‘thanksgiving’. Amb. Blay-Amihere, referenced Luke 17:11-19 which focused on the parable of the 10 lepers and the one who returned to thank Jesus for healing him. The Board Chair used the occasion to express a depth of gratitude to the CE, Management, Company Secretary, and all staff for the professionalism exhibited and support provided him and the Board over his tenue. He said, “I am privileged to have been a part of the GRIDCo Story”. He assured that GRIDCo will feature prominently in his next memoir. He commended all the long service awardees and encouraged them to do their best for the Company.
