On January 15, 2024, Mr. Edward Anim, an Assistant Chief Technician Engineer (ACTE), concluded his 31-year tenure with the Volta River Authority (VRA) and Ghana Grid Company LTD (GRIDCo). During his extensive service, Mr. Anim contributed significantly to critical projects, including the National Electrification Project (NEP) from 1997 to 1999. This initiative extended electricity to various regions, such as Kenyase No. 1 and 2, Akyerensua, Hwediem, Tepa, Sampa, Japekrom, and Drobo in the Brong Ahafo Region, as well as Bawku, Napenduri, Gambaga, Nelarigu, Gushigu, Walewale, and Bongo in the Upper East Region. Mr. Anim also served as the Kumasi Representative for the Hydro Co-operative Credit Union for more than twenty-eight (28) years.

Mr. Anim also played a crucial role in the construction of several 161kV Transmission Line Projects, including the Kumasi-Kenyase / Obuasi-Kenyase (K4KY/B2KY lines), Nkawkaw-New Abriem (N4NA line), Sunyani-Berekum (SN1BR line), Asawinso-Juabuso (AS3JB line), and Asawinso-Obotan (AS2BT line).

Notably, Mr. Anim supervised the successful restoration of the Kumasi-Kenyase transmission line (K4KY line) in 2019. After being out of service for over six weeks due to heavy rains and lightning strikes, the line was repaired, including the installation of Optical Ground Wire for telecommunication network (OPGW) and the construction of access roads.

Throughout his career, Mr. Anim demonstrated unwavering dedication, particularly during challenging situations. Notable achievements include, restoring the Asawinso-Obotan (AS2BT) line, which serves Asanko Mines, and the Kumasi-Kenyase (K4KY) transmission line, essential for the Newmont mine operations in 2019 and 2023, respectively.

Mr. Anim acknowledged God’s protection, and his family’s prayers and support. He expressed appreciation to, “all the Chief Executives, Directors and Area Managers I worked under, System Operators, Electrical Maintenance Staff, Protection & Control Staff, Communications Crew, Security, our cherished Drivers and all my other colleagues especially, Line Maintenance Sections in the Areas (Kumasi, Dunkwa, Prestea, Takoradi, Tema, Akosombo, Techiman, Tamale, Tafo and Bolga), for working together as a team, through thick and thin.”

Mr. Anim will be dearly missed by the Line Maintenance Team, especially in the Northern Network Department (NND). Answering the question on how he plans to spend his retirement, Mr. Anim answered by saying, “It is my fervent prayer that God gives me good health and strength to enjoy my retirement and to serve Him better”.

He wished colleagues in active service, an incident-free working life.

The Board, Management, and Staff of GRIDCo commend Mr. Anim for his diligent service to VRA/GRIDCo and Mother Ghana. Ayekoo!
