The Bolgatanga Area emerged the overall best for the Work Area Safety Committee (WASACO), Operational Area category, while the Audit Department bagged the overall best for the Non-Operational category.
The major highlight of this year’s Corporate Safety Durbar and Awards programme, held on 15th November 2024 at the Takoradi Area Office, was the recognition and awards ceremony honouring deserving staff, Departments and Operational Areas for their outstanding contributions to upholding the Company’s safety values. And thus, amidst cheers and excitement.

Safety Quiz winners, Ing. Robert Ben-Smith, Kelly Mbeke Tay and Dan-Yooni Apasu, were officially presented with medals and plaques and trophy while Ing. Benjamin Kwame Ahunu, Manager for Accra Area, was recognised for his immense support for safety activities, whiles Mr. Daniel Obeng, Accra Area Safety Coordinator, was appreciated for coaching Ing. Ben-Smith who has now won the Safety Quiz Competition twice in a row.
The ceremony featured two other award categories: the Recognition Awards and the Collaboration Awards.
For the Recognition Awards
• Mr. Edward Kobie Mankattah, the Chief Driver, received the Incident/Accident Reporting award. He was recognised for his commitment to safeguarding the Company’s assets by promptly reporting illegal miners who were excavating the soil under GRIDCo’s transmission towers in Prestea, on 1st August 2024.
• Mr. Kwasi Oware who took home the Housekeeping Award was recognised for his exceptional dedication for maintaining exemplary standards of housekeeping at the Konongo Substation and Control Room.
• For the Firefighting Award, Mr. Abor Agbenyegah of Akosombo Area and Mr. Michael Asare of ECG were jointly recognised for their swift intervention during the Akwatia Substation fire outbreak ensuring the safety of the electrical equipment, on 30th May 2024.
Collaboration Awards
• GRIDCo honoured the Ankasa Conservation Reserve of the Ghana Forestry Commission with the Collaboration Award. This award is in response to emergencies, incidents, investigations, guidance and protection of GRIDCo’s facilities in the Ankasa Conservation Reserve area. Their collaboration with GRIDCo is a shining example of dedication to public safety and protecting life and property.
This annual awards programme is not just to recognise individuals and Departments. It is to motivate all to do better and strive to make everyday a safety day.
